DJI Inspire 2 Review and Inspire 1 vs Inspire 2 Comparison
In this show, we review the DJI Inspire 2. Should you consider upgrading from a Phantom or Mavic to the DJI Inspire 2 Drone?
On today’s episode, Corey from Indiana calls in to ask for an opinion on the DJI Inspire 2. We talk about our experience flying the Inspire 2 and explain what we like and don’t like about the drone. Additionally, we talk a bit about how it compares to Inspire 1. While the DJI Inspire 2 drone is an extremely capable (and imposing) bird, its predecessor, the Inspire 1 still offers it some stiff competition.
DJI Inspire 2 – Are You Getting Good Bang for Your Buck?
A Great Drone with Solid Hardware
Let’s talk about the pros first. The first thing that strikes you about the DJI Inspire 2 is the excellent hardware. A magnesium aluminum composite shell and carbon fiber arms ensure strength as well as agility.
The DJI Inspire 2 has a unique and clever design. Since the Inspire 2 is bottom heavy, it generates a pendulum-like motion, and snaps into safe flight mode much faster. Because of this, the Inspire 2 has far greater wind resistance.
The motors on the Inspire 2 are taller and wider, and are capable of generating a lot more torque. The dual battery system on the DJI Inspire 2 means that you can enjoy longer flight time (27 minutes maximum) and redundancy. The protective layer that envelops the drone camera is another useful and practical hardware feature.
The Inspire 2 is a great choice for folks who are living thousands of feet above sea level in cities like Albuquerque (5312 feet) and Colorado (6,800 feet mean elevation). Using high altitude props, you can get eke out some precious extra minutes of flight time.
And Versatile Too…
The Inspire 2 is a versatile solution which will greatly increase your scope of work. Apart from cinematic capabilities, you now have a drone with excellent zoom and thermal capabilities too.
The DJI Inspire 2 can shoot in 4k 60 as well.
If you are looking for RAW capability, you can pair the X5S with the Inspire 2. The DJI Inspire 2 can fly the X5S with ease. Whereas, because of a lower payload capacity, the X5S sits heavy on the Inspire 1. However, a word of caution here. The X5S has focus issues and is not a good camera for drone mapping. For professional drone mappers, the X4S is a far better solution.
Any Reasons NOT to Buy the DJI Inspire 2?
Time to discuss the cons now. Unfortunately, while the DJI Inspire 2 scores 5 on 5 for its amazing hardware, software constraints limit its flying ability.
If you are looking for pure flying joy, the older Inspire has a leg up. The Inspire 1 is far more nimble and flies with uninhibited aggression.
If you buy an Inspire 2, be prepared to deal with the delayed yaw. It is difficult to do hard banking turns on the Inspire 2. Unlike its predecessor, the DJI Inspire 2 comes with Obstacle Avoidance as well. While, this can be useful for noobs, expert drone pilots might be happier without it. For advanced drone applications like subject tracking, Obstacle Avoidance will make the drone harder to fly.
