DJI News, Mavic 2 Pro Hack, Drone Advisory Committee, FAA’s New Drone Rules for Hobby Pilots

In our first drone news story this week, we talk about data security issues with DJI drones. Recently, DJI was in the news for the wrong reasons as there were allegations against the Chinese manufacturer of stealing sensitive data and passing it on to the Chinese government. While the allegations proved to be baseless, this has affected the manufacturer’s reputation and sales. Is there a foolproof and secure way of protecting your drone data? Our next story is about the Drone Advisory Committee. FAA has filled the Drone Advisory Committee, an important decision-making body with large corporations and Part 61 pilots. Zero representation from drone service providers in this 35-member committee is both surprising and disappointing. We also discuss the FAA’s new drone rules for hobby pilots. While these new rules may be a step in the right direction, will a lack of supporting infrastructure result in greater non-compliance?
